GUILD COMMANDERS ANNOUNCE A NEW ALLIANCE

The White Tower has announced the engagement of its Lord Commander, Baron Ephraim Stryker, and Baroness Calista Sureshot. No date for their marriage has yet been announced, but it is thought that it will be on Lord Ephraim’s return from Kyr.

Baron Ephraim has, in his long career as head of the White Tower, turned what had been a forgotten and discredited historical oddity into an indispensable extension of Berenian Royal power. He is currently believed to be in Kyr, where he serves as Bereny’s ambassador to the Empire. He is not believed to have previously been married, and indeed his sudden inclination towards matrimony has come as a surprise to many of his knights, who had considered their Lord Commander a confirmed bachelor.

Baroness Calista is an elf. She is Marshal of the Eagles and is a former commanding general of that Guild, and her family has a long association with BEEF going back to her grandmother, who is a near legendary hero of the Eagles from the reign of Mark I. She has previously been married to Baron Subetai Wildfire, younger brother of Duchess Kubala Wildfire, who was tragically killed as part of the Crown’s ill-fated expedition into the Southern Glaciers. Baroness Calista continues to be active on behalf of the Crown in the southern lands.

In a statement, Baron Ephraim said “I am deeply honoured that Baroness Calista accepted my proposal and I will spend much of my attention in the future making her the happiest woman in Bereny, if not Myriad.”

Although the couple will have had many opportunities to meet at State events over the years, it is unknown how they came to be romantically involved.

King Dirk has given his official permission for the union, calling it "the best news I've heard all year." It is believed that he and Queen Juliette will attend the wedding, instantly turning it into the social event of the year. High Priest Morgut is to officiate at the wedding, which is to take place in Crownheart Cathedral.

The prospect of a marriage between two of the Kingdom’s best-connected nobles has raised the possibility of closer links between the White Tower and the Eagles, who have traditionally combined a common purpose with a cautious rivalry fuelled by competition for members. For those who are suspicious of the growing power of the White Tower, particularly some in the Church, the prospect of the White Tower’s dominance in Frontier and the Underworld being combined with the Eagles growing influence in Derwent is cause for alarm.

But for now the White Tower are looking forward to celebrating the marriage of their Lord Commander.
