KINGDOM WARNED OF

UNDEAD ‘SOUL STEALERS’

Dateline: 25-11-518

Lady Faile, the Lord Crusader of Shanna, has issued a chilling warning that a type of undead monster is roaming south-eastern Bereny, which she has described as an ‘ancient evil’.

She has warned that the area around the Castle of Count Kainen is at particular risk from these creatures, which she calls Plasmaise. She also blamed their sudden appearance on a vampire plot to take over the Kingdom.

“These evil creatures are soul stealers, murdering the innocent and turning them into more of their own fell kind,” she warned in her statement.

The Bugle has learnt that it is feared that any person killed by one of these monsters will become another Plasmaise. If true then there is grave danger to the Kingdom should any reach Wintred, the closest city to the site of the ruined Keep, or even any of the villages or estates of eastern Frostward. Fortunately the vicinity of the Keep is a relatively wild and unpopulated area. “So far the only sighting has been southwest of the keep,” said Lady Faile, “but I do not know how many there may be or how far away from the keep they might have spread,”

Although Lady Faile has not directly linked the appearance of the Plasmaise to the so-called ‘undead plague’ that Count Kainen is reputed to have tried to create in the ruined castle, or to the vampiric monsters that killed so many adventurers within it, a link has been widely assumed, despite previous assurances that the threat had been removed. “The Lord Crusader's theory strikes me as plausible. That Plasmaise are somehow connected to that vampire's base of operations is not contested”, said Baron Amdrel Gettleman, Dei Eligere of the Dei Vigilare.

However the Vampire Council has vehemently denied that Plasmaise are part of a ‘vampire plot’, or that any of their members had anything to do with it.

Forces from the Crusading orders and the DV are now said to be converging on the area. Lady Faile has called for increased vigilance in the area and for any sightings of the Plasmaise to be reported to her. However, when the Bugle spoke to the guards on the gates of Wintred, they had received no orders to increase their level of alert.
