ARMY ON ALERT AS WHITE TOWER ISLAND PREPARES FOR BATTLE

By John Pilger, Swinderlog correspondent

Dateline: 6-11-518

King Dirk has ordered the garrisons of Crownheart and Swinderlog to full alert following news that a substantial army of Dark Dwarves is approaching White Tower Island, Bereny’s outpost in the Underworld.

The Governor of White Tower Island, Baron Tycho M’Grue, is reported to be preparing to defend the island from attack, but the Bugle has learnt that the Governor has sent word to the King that he cannot guarantee that none of the enemy will reach the magical portals connecting White Tower Island with Crownheart and Swinderlog, raising the possibility that an enemy army from the Underworld may be able to appear right in the heart of the Kingdom.

Governor M’Grue’s options are limited because many of the best warriors based at White Tower Island have been lured away to assist the over-run dwarven realm of Caldor. He is reported to be evacuating the inhabitants of nearby human settlements to the safety of the island’s formidable defences, which the White Tower has been painstakingly building over the past two years, while encouraging the native warriors to join his defence force.

The Royal army has been ordered to reinforce the guard around the surface exits from the portals. But before the army seals the portals, this reporter has obtained permission to pass through so I can bring you a live eyewitness report from the expected battle.
