SHADOW MONSTER IN ICEHAUNT COURTYARD

Adventurers and traders in the courtyard of Icehaunt dungeon were caught by surprise when a powerful monster suddenly appeared in the centre of the courtyard.

The creature is believed to be the Midnight Elf warlord known as Mistress Xenia, although reports are confused as the monster seemed to be a thing made entirely from shadow. Her appearance was heralded by the eruption of a cloud of poisonous vapours at the centre of the courtyard, which left onlookers choking and half-blinded.

Fortunately no-one is believed to have been killed by the poison but a number of people have been left seriously ill from the after effects. As the vapours cleared a shadowy form could be discerned at its centre, and a cold and terrible voice could be heard. “Does King Dirk wish to have peace in Bereny? Then he must parlay with me, Mistress Xenia. I don’t want much, just the rulership of his precious Winter Ward.” The voice then laughed; “When I heard that laugh it was like my blood turned to ice,” said one onlooker.

This is not the first time that a Midnight Elven shadow-monster has been sighted in the vicinity of Icehaunt, although the monster sighted two years ago is not believed to have been Mistress Xenia. There have also been attacks on a nearby estate. The Bereny Eagle Elite Fighters have recently confirmed that they have deployed troops in the area to deter further attacks, but they seem to have been helpless to prevent this incursion to the courtyard.

Those that study the activities of monsters have previously been aware of Mistress Xenia only as a name and a reputation as a powerful warlord of the midnight elves, although they have noted that she has on occasion claimed the title of ‘future Queen of Bereny.’ It is unknown whether she is associated with the monster conspiracy known as the Dark Path, although this must be considered probable.

The Shadowbringer’s motive for such a bold incursion may not be purely to issue her ultimatum to the King. The Crusaders of Selador are mustering at Icehaunt before launching their crusade against the Abyss and it is possible that the monster’s purpose may have been directed against them.

However one eyewitness told the Bugle “When the Shadow appeared and the poison cloud erupted everyone instinctively moved away from it. But I’m sure I saw someone move towards the Shadow and give her something - I can’t tell who, it was all too confused.”

The courtyard of Icehaunt remains shrouded in ice after a sudden dip in the temperature which occurred some months ago, and which has made movement within the dungeon difficult and treacherous.
