NEW THREAT IN THE UNDERWORLD

Dateline: 8-6-518

Claims are being been made that the large mission to the Dwarven City of Caldor has finished in success with the defeat of the Psaurian invaders and the fall of their General, the Mammon Zanei.

"It appears that success is ours!”, Senior White Tower Knight Dame Arianna Sunspear told the Bugle. “The Psaurians who overran the Dwarven city have been driven out.”

However notes recovered from the rooms of the Psaurian commander have suggested that the events to this point may be some huge ploy to draw off many of the defenders from the White Tower Island Settlement.

“Although the Psaurians were powerful enemies, I am surprised they were significant enough to have so thoroughly defeated and driven out an infamous and proud race of the underworld in the way they did”, continued Dame Arianna. “So I am confused - after all, although this was a tough fight, it's never proved impossible.”

“I cannot shake the feeling that there is something more to all this than meets the eye. That the Psaurians were pawns and that something larger, something greater, was involved. But whatever it was - it's not here.”

“Then a very uncomfortable thought struck me. This really was much simpler than I'd expected. We've travelled a long way into the old Dwarven underground home and defeated lots of monsters but where it the big threat? It's not here. What if it's never been here? What if this was all a side story. A diversion? And if that is the case then where is the real threat? Why have so many of us been tricked into coming down here and involving ourselves in this campaign? I have a very, very bad feeling about it.”

“I rather think we need to get back to White Tower Island. And fast. It just occurred to me that the denizens here probably think we are the invaders. And a huge number of us have been drawn away from our base."

Governor Baron Tycho M'Grue is now preparing the defences of the Underworld settlement and port at White Tower Island. The strength of his defending force has been reduced not only by the mission to recover Caldor, but also by the return of many adventurers from the Underworld to the surface to aid in the defence of Crownheart against the Helltroop attack.

Forces outside Caldor have been recalled to their base and other elements are being dispatched through the portal at the White Tower’s main base within Swinderlog. The many and various forces within Caldor that include the leaders of the Warders and Rune Forge are urgently seeking a way to return to the island as well.

Meanwhile there has been no word as to the fate of the Dwarven King, Habble Silverhall, who was believed to have been making a last stand within his city. It must therefore be considered likely that he has not survived the destruction of his kingdom.
