DEMON ARMY THREATENS CROWNHEART

Dateline: 28-1-517

Bereny’s capital city is tonight surrounded by a Demon army of unknown strength. The Demons appeared seemingly from no-where, and although they have not yet launched any attack, rumour of their approach is leading to widespread fear and panic in the city.

The first signs that something was amiss came when fires erupted in the countryside all around the city, leaving the earth scorched and blackened. Soon after reports began to arrive that the ‘Helltroops’ had been sighted in the vicinity, both to the north, the east and the south of the city.

Baron Amdrel Gettleman, Dei Eligere of the Dei Vigilare, has confirmed his belief that these ‘Helltroops’ originate from the Daemonrift. This, along with recent confirmation (see story in this issue) that the Daemon’s are indeed preparing a new invasion, has lead to fears that we are witnessing the beginning of a new Time of Thunder.

Although none of the demonic troops have come within sight of observers on the city walls yet, partially hidden as they are by the smoke of the fires surrounding the city, rumour of their approach lead to panic. In recent years Crownheart has rapidly outgrown its historic boundaries and there are many businesses and out-of-town retail centres lying beyond its walls.

Frightened citizens and their families scrambled with commercial wagons to get inside the city gates, and at one point the City Guard had to intervene to restore order.

The Bugle spoke to an Elven warrior maiden who made it into the city after engaging some of the Helltroops to the north of the city. “I cannot be sure if they were men or women or something else,” Jodi Riverdaughter told us. “All I know is, I wanted to get inside the city and fast!”

There has been a mood of unease in the city since the disquieting message delivered on the night of the King’s coronation. Since then there have been other messages purporting to be from ‘Lord Lexor’ threatening the Kingdom with destruction, but these have been widely met with derision.

All units of the Bereny Eagles in the vicinity of Crownheart have been mobilised, and there are rumours that the King, who was personally threatened by Lord Lexor, is on his way back to Crownheart. Indeed there are rumours that well-known Crownheart lawyer Snodfer L Puddlethumper is considering presenting a legal writ to the courts demanding that the King return to Crownheart.
