GLAZE ACCUSED OVER VAMPIRE DEATH

Dateline: 16-08-517

A furious row has broken out between the Vampire Council, the unofficial organisation that represents the interests of vampires in Bereny, and one of Bereny’s most famous heroes, Baroness Glaze Aiven-Fierein, after estate militia from the Baroness’s estate killed a vampire.

The vampire, named Stavia, was not actually on the Baroness’ estate, which lies not far south of the city of Poldoon. “The Vampire was in the area south of Poldoon which is patrolled by my forces. It was causing a nuisance so they killed it,” announced the Baroness, who is married to the Duke of Poldoon but holds the estate in her own name.

The Vampire Council reacted angrily to the report, and demanded that the Royal Courts investigate the death as a potential murder. “We ask the Royal Courts to look into this murder with the same perseverance they would for any citizen of Bereny,” said Countess Cambion Winterfall of the Vampire Council.

The Royal Courts declined however to investigate the report, citing that no citizen of Bereny had been killed and no actual witness to the act had come forward. “In the opinion of the Royal Courts there is no valid case for further investigation,” a spokesman said.

Baroness Glaze defended her militia’s actions and accused the Council of wasting the Court’s time, adding “I find the fact that you are walking around enough to kill you and your kind.”

The Vampire Council expressed its outrage at the Baroness’ response, and re-iterated its position that vampirism is a ‘haematological disorder’ and that vampires who acknowledge the laws of Bereny should be accepted as citizens. “The position of vampires within the Kingdom is shaky to say the least, further endangered by those who refuse we who have accepted The Light entrance to the Kingdom,” Countess Winterfall responded.

However it emerged that the vampire Stavia was wanted by the local Crown authorities for attacks on people in the area, and had a bounty on his head.

Although accepting that Baroness Glaze had no legal case to answer, Countess Winterfall remained offended. “This incident leaves the bitter aftertaste of a murder committed by the militia of an overzealous Duchess with a blind hate for vampires, a murder that coincidentally turned into the execution of one who was already marked for death. We are convinced neither the Courts nor the King wants a 'free-for-all' manhunt on those vampires who accept The Six and are doing their utmost best to be accepted into the kingdom by His Grace.”
