‘DARK PATH’ TARGETS

GRRR!!! SNR

Rumours have surfaced that one of the better-known of Bereny’s monsters may be in trouble. The lizard-man leader Grrr!!! Snr, famous as the ‘Choccie biccie monster’, is said to have come under attack by another and equally well-known monstrous leader, the notorious Masterbone.

Grrr!!! Snr’s lair is believed to lie in a dungeon complex on the edges of Swinderlog Swamp known picturesquely as the Bowels of Death. During the reign of King Mark III, the Crown, spearheaded by the Bereny Eagles, made a determined but unsuccessful attempt to destroy Grrr!!! and his minions. However since then Grrr!!! has made several approaches to the Crown seeking an alliance, and in a recent interview with the Bereny Bugle even went so far as to express a wish to become a citizen of Bereny. So far the King has always rebuffed such advances.

However it is perhaps Grrr!!!’s enthusiasm for seeking peaceful co-existence with the free peoples of Bereny which has brought the wrath of the Masterbone upon him. The Masterbone has the reputation of being the single most powerful and terrifying monster in all of Bereny. Those who have seen it and have been fortunate enough to survive have described a huge skeletal dragon-like creature wielding magical swords in each hand. It has on two occasions tried to take over Mirrormane dungeon and drive out all adventurers, and was only thwarted with great loss of life, and in 512 it ambushed and tried to kill King Dirk (at that time Regent).

Those that analyse the activities of the monster population believe that the Masterbone has now turned its attentions on Grrr!!!. In a taunting message the Masterbone boasted “Chocco Biscuit production will cease very soon. Last chance for provisioning.”

Interestingly the Masterbone described itself in this message as a ‘Lord of the Dark Path’. In his interview with the Bugle, Grrr!!! revealed that the Dark Path is a secret alliance of Monsters, and described them as a ‘League of Evil’. “I will fight them at every available opportunity,” Grrr!!! said at the time.

While the prospect of there being one less monster in Bereny may seem like a good thing to many people, experts fear that this Dark Path may be trying to consolidate its rule over the various monstrous tribes that inhabit the dungeons and warrens beneath our feet, and history has shown that when that happens, it generally spells trouble for the people of the surface world.
