RESCUE IN RMK?

What goes up.....
The isolation of the Wealthy Quarter in Red Mountain, following a massive eruption of molten lava into the courtyard area, has continued despite all attempts at rescue.
"We tried bridges, stone rafts, everything. Nothing can get through.", said one RMK Courtyard guard. "A couple 'a dwarfs even tried a catapult but, ah, it didn't go so good." The lava flow combined with an unusual toxic cloud emanating from the superheated rock has stymied all attempts at rescue.
Today, however, hope comes in the form of a balloon! Noted elfin balloonist Aerie Humpendump recently arrived at ‘Bereny's finest courtyard’ intent on a solution. "Ya, ze balloon is perfect in ze Red Mountains. Fly over ze smoke easy and save lots of pipples. And I makes lots of gold, ya?"
Apparently the balloonist has contracted with the Courtyard Guard in an attempt to save the thousand or more citizens trapped within the lava flow. "The Crown is intent on rescuing everyone trapped within the Wealthy Quarter. If Mr Humpendump can give us any useful information with his contraption, he will be well compensated.", said Assistant Guard Commander Will ‘The Vise’ Merrit.
More ominously, the loud cries for help from within have almost completely stopped as of this writing. The mood among the citizenry is perhaps as low as it has ever been. Will a balloon lift their spirits?
