ROUNDUP IN RED MOUNTAIN!

Dateline: 22-6-517

A new initiative to prevent "fearmongering and baseless rumor" has led to several dozen arrests in Red Mountain Keep over the last few days, with a dozen still being held.

At a recent conference, transcripts indicate Deputy Commander Will ‘The Vise’ Merrit has been directing these efforts personally.  Merrit said, "Every time a misguided citizen spreads a baseless rumor, such as recent lies about flesh golems or corruption in the Courtyard Guard, it weakens morale, reduces trade and keeps adventurers away from our fine courtyard.  For the good of Bereny, we cannot allow that to happen."

Merrit has arrested bards, storytellers, drunks and others inclined to spread gossip.  Some were released after a few hours.  For others, it was more difficult.  A bard well known for playing at the Rose and Thorns was one.  "One round of The Guard Captain and the Merchant's Wife, and the next morning I'm in the Guard Fortress being beat-- I mean having a long talk with squad 7."  After showing this reporter several mangled fingers, the bard quickly left for Icehaunt.

Even now, about a dozen citizens are being held somewhere in Red Mountain Courtyard.  Guard sources indicate that they are relatives of certain merchant families, and are to be kept prisoner until an appropriate ‘fine’ is paid.  A notable exception to the crackdown, however, is in the adventuring community.  Axe in one hand, Stonebreaker in the other, noted Dwarf Warrior Stix simply growled "If they start it, I'll finish it."

This reporter will continue to investigate.
