THE BERENY BUGLE BIG INTERVIEW

FIRST ROYAL ADVENTURER - LADY ABBI SELAS, THE RECENTLY APPOINTED HEAD OF THE ROYAL GUILD OF ADVENTURERS, SPEAKS TO THE BERENY BUGLE

By Rebekah Seyke, Editor-in-Chief

Dateline: 14-1-516

Q: Lady Abbi, congratulations on your appointment, and thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Abbi Selas: Before I answer your questions, can I just say what an honour it is to become the leader of Bereny’s oldest and most noble guild.

Q: The RGA has been little heard from in recent times, and has been through two changes of leadership in the past couple of years. Do yo intend for it to have a higher profile under your leadership?

AS: Yes, indeed. In recent times the RGA has taken a step back form the light. Other guilds have stepped up to take over the responsibilities that the RGA should have been taking, and as such as the RGA has become a forgotten guild.

I hope to change this. My task is to make it great again, to be the shining light in the darkness of the past year. When the RGA is strong so is Bereny, as we are the King’s and Crown’s men and women. We are the Crown’s right hand, and we shall strike down with righteous fury those which would do harm to our great land.

You have to ask would the Antithetical Church or the Dark Gods and the people behind what is happening with the reappearance of the Dark Path and King Slime and the situation with Meadowbrook have happened if the Royal Guild were as strong as it was in years past? Who knows, but what is done is done, and it is up to me to try to help, with the aid of other guilds, to repair the damage.

Q: So you are hoping to see the RGA co-operate with other guilds?

AS: I have plans, and hope that I will be able to improve links with other guilds.

Q: However we note that you have banned members of the RGA from joining the Way of the Five Paths (or vice versa). Is this because you have doubts about the crown loyalty of the Wot5P? After all, you are in a better position to know than most.

AS: The Ban on membership of the Wot5P is until I and the Founders Council agree to allow them to join. They are a small social guild, made up of people who adventure together and have no common cause, apart from helping each other out if it suits them and doing their own thing, and just meet up like a pub scrumball team. They are loyal to the Crown, and during my time in the guild I could not find any causes to worry about them, but neither did they do much to aid the Crown and show true loyalty. If over the course of the next couple of years they show themselves to be Crown-loyal by aiding the Crown in missions, then maybe the ban will be removed.

Q: The RGA has a reputation for accepting only those from Bereny's nobility or those recommended by members of the nobility. Do you intend to continue this exclusive policy?

AS: I am willing to accept anyone who is crown loyal and willing to lay down their lives for King and Country.

Q: The RGA has also in the past campaigned against the acceptance of undead as having the protection of the Crown. Do you intend to pursue these policies?

AS: The undead should be keep in the ground, they are an offence against the Six and the natural causes of things ..... the Six teach us to hunt down and lay to rest these creatures. I know that some of the adventures who travelled to the Land of the Dead came back changed, turned into undead things, but look what they also brought back - the Reaper! Who can say what other unknown things may have come back with them?  Whilst I note their bravery and courage, you wonder what risk they have done to their very souls?

Q: It is perhaps unusual for a Priestess of the Six to be First Royal Adventurer. Do you think that this is a suitable role for a Priestess? Are you going to make the RGA into a more religion-orientated organization?

AS: Why should it matter that I am a priestess of the Six? I would be more worried if the First Royal Adventurer did not follow the Six! I think it is high time that a powerful female comes to such a position of power and the fact that I am a priestess of the Six can only help to bring the word of the Six to people who may not know it - such as Derwent and Kyr. The Six have a place in everyone’s heart and should be not be just an add on. With this appointment I hope to be able to bring a joining of the Church and the most powerful guild into union. Together we can help shine light into all the dark holes in the land and bring hope to those who have none.

Q: The FRA traditionally receives a Barony, but although the Regent has confirmed this, there have been procedural questions over whether it is possible for a priestess to receive a Barony. Will you be disappointed if it is not confirmed?

AS: Nice as that would be, I have had letters from the Royal Courts confirming my appointment, and as such I am more that happy with that. If I should gain a Barony - then that’s a bonus.

Q: The RGA's oath of allegiance is to the Crown, but at the minute we have no King. Do you think the oath applies in full to a regent?

AS: The oath is to the Crown and the person, be they king or regent, who sits on the throne. We are the Crown’s men and women. We are the backbone of Bereny. Look what has befallen poor Bereny whilst the RGA has been limping along! It is time for the RGA to step back into the light and help Bereny become great again.

Q: So who would you like to see as King of Bereny?

AS: I’m not going to answer that as I serve the Crown, and I see the Regent is going a fine job. If it is discovered that some one who can prove to be true to the bloodline, and is proved to be rightful to the crown, and is given the throne, then we will accept them. But at the end of the day we are True to the Crown, be it king or regent who wears it.

Q: The role of the RGA has historically been to organise missions against the enemies of the crown. Have you any such planned?

AS: With this mission to the find the underground king just announced, I hope that the Royal Guild will be able to lend assistance to the other guilds involved.  More missions may be added and drawn up, but as I said a lot of dead wood needs to be cut to allow new growth to grow. This guild will be great again.
