KING GOES IN SEARCH OF THE GODSTONE
Dateline: 28-
Following announcements from the Crown that the mission to discover the secrets of the Godstone in Safe Haven is of ‘utmost importance’ to the Kingdom, the Bugle has learnt that King Dirk himself intends to journey to Safe Haven to lead the mission.
Exactly what the Godstone is, is not clear. However it appears to be the source of the power that keeps the the magical extradimensional enclave known as Safe Haven in existence, and it is seen as a possible solution to the deterioration of the magical ‘weave’ that has recently caused the Crown to impose a ban on all teleportation magic.
The Bugle has learnt that a team of enchanters lead by Baron Axomin recently discovered the chamber within Safe Haven where the Godstone resides. It was guarded by powerful magical animates, but Baron Axomin managed to approach it and touch it. Unfortunately he was instantly annihilated by the power this unleashed. Only one survivor returned to tell of what had happened.
The decision of the King to personally lead a second attempt seems a measure of the seriousness with which the Crown is treating the threat that the deterioration of the Weave may leave Bereny open to incursions from other dimensions. It is reputed that he will be joined by some of Bereny’s greatest heroes, including Lady Stella, Lord Crusader of Marial, Lady Jasmine, the former Lord Crusader of Shanna, Lady Buega of Jess, recently appointed Gladius Primus of the Dei Vigilare, and Baroness Laurelin Oakenheart of BEEF.
The problem continues to be getting non-
The King has been warned that the magical defences around the Godstone will make it very dangerous to attempt to reach it, and that the mission may suffer heavy casualties. King Dirk has never been one to shirk from personal danger, but many in the Royal court are concerned that the monarch is placing himself in unnecessary jeopardy.
However the prospect of having some action towards which he can direct his energies seems to have lifted the black mood which had gripped the King on learning of the threat from the collapse of the Weave, and which had so troubled those in the Royal Court. “It was like he was struggling with some impossible dilemma,” one palace insider told the Bugle, “and now suddenly he sees a way out.”
