CHOCCIE BICCIE MONSTER

The lizardman leader Grrr!!! Snr, one of Bereny’s most famous monsters, is said to have been killed by the Masterbone following an epic battle between hundreds of demonic and undead minions in the parallel dimension known as the Shadowrift.

The claim has been made by the Masterbone, who also claims that it was its swords that personally cut down Grrr!!!. The Masterbone has supported its claim by granting the Bereny Bugle a magical vision of the battlefield during the last moments of Grrr!!!’s life.

The vision shown to the Bugle was of a great stone pyramid standing in a clearing surrounded by weird unearthly vegetation, near to which were a series of stone arches covered in unknown inscriptions. Within this clearing, a hundred or more of the Masterbone’s skeletal minions were locked in battle with an even greater number of demonic humanoids serving Grrr!!!. As the vision progressed the great skeletal serpent beast that is the Masterbone drove headlong at Grrr!!!, striking with a sword in each of its hands. It shrugged off dozens of flaming arrows and the blows dealt by Grrr!!!’s demonic guards as if they were nothing. Only once did a blow from one of the demonic guards penetrate its defences, and its retaliation sent demonic minions flying in all directions.

Unable to land a blow on the Masterbone with his great warhammer, Grrr!!! was driven back to the edge of the clearing by the fury of the Masterbone’s malice, until three great blows cut him down. After only a few minutes though Grrr!!! rose again, apparently recalled from death by some necromantic rite. But there was no escape from death for Grrr!!! this day, for the Masterbone was waiting to deal it out again.

In the end the Masterbone slaughtered Grrr!!! and all his minions - hundreds of them. A vampire serving the Masterbone was the undead Lord’s only casualty.

“It has taken me over two years to pinpoint the location of my arch-enemy in the Shadowrift,” the Masterbone told us. “This time Grrr!!! Snr had no chance to escape again. The power of the Masterbone has defeated his foes.”

Grrr!!! has for many years been one of the most visible and controversial of the Kingdom’s monstrous denizens. He claimed that Princess Grace, one of the few members of the Royal House of Tredach outside the immediate family of the King who is also in line of succession to the throne, was his niece. He was driven from his base in a dungeon near Swinderlog Swamp two years ago by the Masterbone, not long after he gave the Bereny Bugle an interview. His appeals for protection to King Dirk were rejected. It now appears that he fled to the Shadowrift where he raised a new army of demons to serve him.

Grrr!!! often sought an accommodation with the good-aligned peoples of Bereny (one of the main reasons he earned the enmity of the Masterbone), and at one time manufactured and traded chocolate biscuits with the Kingdom, which earned him his nick-name as the ‘choccie biccie monster’. For all this though, Grrr!!! was also a master of shadow magic and, as illustrated by his fall, not above recruiting demons into his service. However he was not the implacable enemy of the Kingdom that the Masterbone is, and his last great service to Bereny may be that he has kept the Masterbone occupied away from Bereny for two years.

The Masterbone’s final words in his statement to the Bugle were particularly chilling. “Within the next days I will leave the Shadowrift and return to my reign. The Dark Path will negotiate new goals how to expand their power within Bereny.”
