COURTS RECONSIDER ON D’AGRILLAC OUTLAW

Dateline: 30-3-517

The Royal Courts have taken the unprecedented step of rescinding a sentence of outlawing against a member of the White Tower after a personal intervention by its Lord Commander, Baron Ephraim Stryker.

The outlaw in question is Lord Gareth D’Agrillac, son of the rebel baron Uryen D’Agrillac, who held the rank of Knight of the Sword in the WT’s Green Codex, and was also a member of the Order of the Rose.

The courts did not make public their reasons for Lord Gareth’s outlawing, but it is thought that they considered him to be complicit in his father’s treasonous rebellion, or that he may be helping to protect Uryen, who is still at large, from justice. Neither his sister Lady Ygraine nor his half-sister Baroness Farissa deTorfane have suffered the same fate, however.

In an appeal to the Crown against his sentence, Lord Gareth claimed to be a loyal servant of the Crown. “I have committed no treason, slain no innocents, or otherwise broken the laws of the land. As far as I am aware I have been outlawed by the Royal Courts for no other reason than my father is in rebellion against the crown.”

Following a series of anonymous allegations to the Courts that the White Tower was protecting an outlaw, which is in breach of its Royal Charter, Lord Gareth was stripped of his White Tower rank. However, behind the scenes Baron Stryker actively made representations to the King and the Courts for the sentence to be reviewed.

“We were unable to contact Lord Gareth initially,” the Lord Commander of the White Tower told the Bugle, “and so I summarily dismissed him from the Tower and stripped him of his Guild related ranks and titles.”

“He subsequently did lay his case at the feet of the High Table and I passed a representation to the Royal Courts and King Dirk. He was asked to place his case which he has done.”

“The Tower acted swiftly on receipt of the information of an Outlawing of one of its members, but still seeks to ensured his case is fairly heard. If the decision of the courts is that there has been a miscarriage of justice then we will reinstate Lord Gareth. If the verdict is against him we will dispatch a party of Red Codex Knights to take him into custody to receive the justice due to him under the law.”

Fortunately for Lord Gareth, it would seem that the Courts were swayed either by his plea, or by Baron Stryker’s influence, or possibly by the direct intervention of the King, as they have today announced that the sentence has been lifted.

He immediately expressed his thanks to the King, doubtless very glad to have avoided the prospect of being hunted down by his former comrades in the WT. The White Tower had promised Lord Gareth that he would be re-instated if his outlaw status is revoked, although it now appears he is going to have to reapply for his Tower rank.
