DAEMONRIFT EXPEDITION LOCATES ROYAL MAGE

The magic guild The Assembly has released a journal written by one of its members
who accompanied the Daemonrift Expedition, which has revealed that the expedition
has found the Royal Mage Maverick, and that he is alive, but that they have as yet
been unable to free him. The account also suggests that the rulers of that place
are indeed preparing for a new invasion of Bereny -
The journal was written by Assembly member Kale Nightbringer and was retrieved from the Daemonrift by magical means following the death of its author in battle against the demonic forces training for an invasion of Bereny.
Although a fragmentary message was obtained from Kale over a year ago, this is the first definitive information to reach Bereny since the portal to the Daemonrift was closed behind the expedition.
The journal reveals that the expedition battled and defeated two of the Rift Lords, and have discovered where the missing Royal Mage is being imprisoned, but were at that time unable to release him from captivity.
Kale also reveals that the daemons have developed devices for turning creatures from Myriad into daemons, and that they discovered many unfortunate beings, of many races, taken from Myriad and imprisoned there, possibly to face this terrible fate. Although the expedition has suffered many casualties they have in part been replaced by former captives who have been released.
Despite Kale himself being slain by a unit of elite Demon Ogre infantry, a covering note from another expedition member, Senai Brightheart, indicates that they are battling on and are hopeful of finding a key that will allow them to release Maverick. It is not known how long ago the journal and its covering note were written.
Kale Nightbringer was a former senior member of Queen Juliette’s household, but volunteered for the Daemonrift expedition to clear his name after it became known that he was a practitioner of the discipline of Shadow Magic, and rumours surfaced about the circumstances under which he obtained his power.
