CROWN ANNOUNCES BAN ON TELEPORT MAGIC

Dateline: 20-2-518

The King has announced a ban on the use of teleport magic because, it is claimed, it is weakening the barrier which separates Myriad from other worlds and dimensions such as the Daemonrift and the Land of the Fae.

The ban was announced by the King’s personal aide and magical adviser, Lord Isander Whiteflame.

“The King has been forced to implement a temporary ban on the use of all teleport magic, except in life or death situations, without specific permission of the Crown,” said Lord Isander in his proclamation. He went on to strongly discourage the use of any magics which channel magic from other dimensions.

The alleged weakening of the barrier between dimensions, which Lord Isander referred to as the magical Weave, is being blamed on the opening of extradimensional portals such as those recently used to attack Crownheart, although Lord Isander pointed out that portals opened from Bereny such as those to the Land of the Dead and the Daemonrift were also to blame.

“Whilst this weakening is presently slight, it is clearly imperative that we prevent it from growing worse, or we will face further incursions of the kind that afflicted Crownheart”, said Lord Isander. “We have discovered that teleportation of almost all kinds causes a very slight weakening of the Weave. This would ordinarily be insignificant, but for the existing damage.”

Lord Isander also revealed that the recent army mobilisation has been to guard certain known ‘weak spots’ in the Weave outside Bereny's borders.

“These are clearly only short-term solutions,” he continued. “To repair the damage we must find a way to reinforce the Weave. This will require an immense energy source, and the means to channel it usefully. The King would urge the nation's guilds and arcane practitioners to search for the former, and research the latter, with the utmost haste.”

Although there was immediate widespread concern over the threat that the collapse of the Weave would result in a renewed Time of Thunder, not all mages seemed to share the Royal concern, and some even seemed to look on it as an attempt to impose Royal control over them.

“This is a tyrannous clamp down on the free movement of persons”, said one enchanter. “We will not be told when we can or can't use teleportation.”
