RIOTERS TAKE OVER NOTORIOUS WINTRED PRISON

The Crown authorities have confirmed that they have effectively lost control of the infamous Catamori high security prison following a breakout and riot by prisoners. At least some of the prison's guards are known to have been killed in the explosion of violence within its grim and foreboding walls, and a number of others are unaccounted for, leading to fears that they have been taken hostage.
Catamori prison is the place of incarceration of some of the most violent and dangerous criminals in Bereny. Most of its inmates are either awaiting trial for capital crimes or have already been convicted and are being held there pending decisions on appeals.
Among them are a number of members of Uryen D’Agrillac’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Bereny, who surrendered to the White Tower after the rebel nobleman’s death last year and were handed over to the Crown for trial. These prisoners include two men implicated in the murder of Bereny Bugle journalist Bob Woodward in 517.
Also resident at Catamori is former Red Mountain Keep Guard Commander Jonathan Sevenlimes, awaiting trial on charges of corruption, racketeering and murder, together with several other former members of the RMK Guard. Foremost among these is feared RMK enforcer Will ‘The Vise’ Merrit whose name continues to evoke a shudder of dread from the residents of Red Mountain Keep.
The prison is housed in a converted castle keep at the city of Wintred, and although its sheer stone walls make escape difficult it has long been criticised because its cramped interior makes it difficult for the guards to control prisoners adequately.
The prisoners have now barricaded themselves within the prison. That at least some of the missing guards are dead is known because their severed heads have been mounted along the upper battlements of the keep. The Crown authorities in Wintred have appealed for assistance in dealing with this emergency, and have stressed that speed is of the essence in restoring order and Royal authority to the prison before the situation deteriorates any further, and especially if there is to be any hope of finding the missing guards alive.
It is believed that both the Crusaders of Cambron and the Red Codex of the White Tower are considering sending assistance. However with the bulk of the Crown's most experienced troubleshooters on their way to deal with the situation at Korl, there are concerns that only relatively inexperienced forces may be available to assist at Catamori Prison.
Meanwhile the biggest fear of the citizens at Wintred is that the criminals might not wait for the Crown to move against them but might find a way to break out of the prison and run amok in the surrounding area.
