‘RAVEN’S ARMY’ MAKES A MOVE ON POLDOON PASS

Dateline: 12-12-517

A new fortified barracks is under construction outside the city of Poldoon for Duke Raven’s recently raised military force, the Poldoon Border Scouts.

The stated objective of the new force is to protect the wild lands along Bereny’s eastern border lands, between Poldoon and the border with Kyr. The Raven has announced that the force’s first objective will be to re-occupy and re-fortify an abandoned Kyrian border fortress in the Poldoon Pass area.

Although adventurers of all races are believed to have volunteered for the Scouts, the core of the force is a contingent from the Centaur Council guild, and it seems likely that it will be confirmed that the PBS’s first commanding general will be the Centaur Council’s nominee, Eurytion of Pelion.

Speaking at the PBS’s new base at Poldoon, Eurytion said “Duke Raven is probably busy sorting out the final details of the mission to take the Border Fort in no-man's land in-between the Bereny and Kyr borders. I have no doubt that he will address the Volunteers shortly.”

“I myself do not know the full scope of what we have to face, but the Border Fort is there for the taking, it will be the test that our mettle will be judged against and our successes will be the yardstick by which future missions will be decided upon.”

Despite the Poldoon Border Scouts having been given official Royal sanction, the prospect of a Duke who only a few years ago was in open rebellion against the Regency training up a military force which reports direct to him has caused some disquiet in Crown circles.

It would also appear that the Empire of Kyr is less than pleased at what might be seen by them as an encroachment into their own sphere of influence. Since the end of the Jenna War there has been a tacit agreement that neither Kingdom will attempt to take control of the no-mans land that lies between their official borders, and the Raven’s move may make the position of Bereny’s newly arrived Ambassador at the Kyrian capitol, Baron Ephraim Stryker, rather uncomfortable.

“The Empire is concerned and surprised that Bereny appears to be seeking to occupy the property of the Kyrian empire without at least first discussing the matter with Kyr”, a Kyrian diplomatic source told the Bugle. “However, the Ra'is of the City of Splendours has undertaken to discuss the matter with the Berenian Ambassador to find out exactly what Bereny intends and to deal with any misunderstandings.”
