MONASTIC BROTHERHOOD MEETS ITS MARTIAL ARTS NEMESIS

The Brotherhood of the Silent Pond have found themselves outmatched by the ‘Dark Destroyers’

The Bereny Bugle has learnt that the leadership of the monastic order known as the Brotherhood of the Silent Pond has been decimated in an epic bloodbath of martial arts in one of the monastic community’s own training establishments.
The Brotherhood had gone in force to the Temple of the Jade Tiger, high amidst the
Spirit Mountains, after rumours had reached them that some evil had befallen the
monks there. The Temple of the Jade Tiger is one of the most prestigious training
establishments in monastic circles, but it has always had a reputation for flouting
the rules. In a discipline which supposedly accepts only males, it was the first
to train females, and it was the first to allow non-
The Brotherhood has for some years been locked in a struggle with a rival organisation of evil monks known as the Dark Hand. Some years ago the Brotherhood’s leader, known as the ‘Old One’, vanished in the depths of the Torlian Catacombs while seeking the base of the Dark Hand. His place has been taken by a young monk called Micah, who inevitably came to be referred to as the ‘Young One’, and it was this new leader that urged the Brotherhood to respond to the rumours from the Temple of the Jade Tiger. Many monks from the wider monastic community also volunteered to join their expedition.
However having reached the Temple, and on entering its lowest levels, the Silent Pond monks and their allies were attacked by a force of five martial art masters called the ‘Dark Destroyers’, whose inhuman speed and devastating power proved too much for even this assemblage of the greatest martial artists in Bereny. The Bugle understands that eight of the Silent Pond’s greatest champions have fallen before this onslaught. The only survivors are relatively inexperienced monks who had stood aside from the battle, and who are now fleeing from the fury of the Dark Destroyers. Fortunately not all the Brotherhood’s experienced monks were present at the battle; some were elsewhere in the Temple, and these are now hastening to the aid of the survivors. Whether they will be in time remains to be seen.
One of those who is unaccounted for is Micah himself, though there are rumours that he disappeared before the Dark Destroyers attacked. Some in the Brotherhood of the Silent Pond are now wondering whether, far from gaining enlightenment, they have walked blindly into a trap set by their enemies.
