BERENY TO OPEN

EMBASSY IN KYR

Dateline: 3-12-517

Bereny’s ambassador to Kyr, Baron Ephraim Stryker, Lord Commander of the White Tower, is preparing to establish an official Berenian embassy and mission in the Empire’s capitol city, the City of Splendours.

“Baron Stryker’s party successfully reached The City of Splendours some months ago,” a spokesperson for the White Tower told the Bugle, “and was cordially received by the Ra'is of the city, Mustafa Jihad. The Ra’is and the Baron exchanged gifts, and the Ra’is has granted permission for a Berenian mission to be established within the city walls.“

“The Baron is awaiting confirmation from the Royal Exchequer that the Crown will fund the construction process. Until this is complete he is remaining in the close proximity of the city. However other members of his retinue have set out to explore further.”

The White Tower statement did not say whether the Baron has had any talks with the Empress of Kyr herself, but many commentators believe that the Empress is little more than a figurehead ruler and that the Ra’is is in any case the true ruler of the Empire.

Although the City of Splendours lies much further east than Rasaiad, the closest Kyrian city to Poldoon Pass, it is said to still be on the western side of the Empire, and it is believed that Baron Stryker is particularly interested in finding a route to Kyr’s coastline with the Great Eastern Ocean, and from there possibly even to the fabled land of the Golden Coast.

However no Berenian has ever before travelled the trade route to Kyr’s eastern cities of Asalah and Mordash and returned to tell of it, and even Kyrians fear that route, for it runs through the great desert of Kyr’s interior whose Kyrian name translates roughly as ‘The Desert of Endless Peril and Misery’.
