YOU'LL BELIEVE A CENTAUR CAN FLY

Dateline: 01-07-520

"I've seen a dragon fly, I've seen a horse fly. I've even seen a house fly. But I think I've seen about everything when I see a centaur fly.”

It has been revealed that Chaldan Ironhoof, leader of the Centaur Council, has been transformed into Bereny's first winged centaur. The transformation, which was caused by an ancient magical artefact, has resulted in him gaining the permanent addition of a set of wings and the ability to fly.

The first son of a weaponsmith and a Centaur mage, Chaldan went on to assume the leadership of the Centaur Council, and has earned a reputation in recent years for leading his fellow centaurs where others have feared to tread, such as their recent exploration of the Tower of Kreskin'Lal, which has raised the prospect that a cure may finally be found for the Elven curse.

For his latest task, that of assisting the Royal mission to 'Save the World', Chaldan obtained an ancient harness said to have originated in the Frontier which was reputed to give a horse the ability to fly, reasoning that if he was going to be venturing into the clouds then the ability to fly might be useful. However to his surprise and consternation the mystical harness merged irretrievably with his body to create a powerful pair of wings.

Now that he has recovered from the surprise, Chaldan is said to quite like his new ability, and has already put it to good use by saving the mission from an Ultimate Animate. After this nearly unstoppable monster killed one of his Centaur Council comrades, Chaldan was able to defeat it by swooping around it, taking advantage of it being confined to the narrow paths through the clouds to stay out of its reach and attack it with arrows and magic.

He is even said to be able to carry a passenger while flying, allowing him to carry others into the skies in a manner previously only possible for wyvern riders. However anyone volunteering to be carried will need to hang on tight as the leader of the Centaur Council still refuses to wear a saddle or any other form of horse tack, which he has frequently condemned as demeaning for a centaur to wear.
