UNDEAD WALKERS HERO TURNED DOWN AGAIN BY MONSTER COMMISSION

Dateline: 27-01-519

For the second time, the Crown Commission for the Protection of Monsters has declined to award full Crown Protected status to Sharra Goldoak, a hero of the Goblin War who has unfortunately been turned into an undead skeletal monster following an encounter with Helltroops in the Shadowrift.

The Commission has however decided to award her a new probationary Protected status.

In declaring the decision of the Commission, King Dirk said “The probationary status would grant the same legal rights as Royal

Protection, but would be automatically reviewed on a yearly basis. The applicant would be expected to continue to exhibit exemplary behaviour throughout their probationary period, and to continue to attempt to show their worthiness for full Royal Protection ... Once the Commission is satisfied as to the applicant's loyalty and good character, Royal Protection will be granted on a permanent basis.”

The decision not to award full Protected status was apparently a close one.

At least part of the Commissions concern seems to be that Sharra’s transformation seems to have resulted from an elvish ability to will herself to return from the dead rather than as the result of being the unwilling victim of some process involving evil magic, and that she has therefore ‘chosen’ herself to become undead.

In part to demonstrate her worthiness to regain the rights of Berenian citizenship, Sharra (who is also a member of the Walkers on the Edge) has volunteered to join the Duke of Poldoon’s Border Scouts, and is reportedly preparing to face a dragon in the dungeons beneath a ruined fortress in Poldoon Pass.

“I was very pleased to learn that I have been awarded the new Probationary status,” she said in her reply to the King’s proclamation. “You may all know that my views and stance on the Gods of Light and morality will not stray and I will take each new step with hope once more. I look forward to the time when I have passed my probationary period and get granted full Citizenship of Bereny once again.”
