LAST D’AGRILLAC REBELS FINALLY DEFEATED

Dateline: 15-01-517

The flag of Bereny now flies above Kerak Falkone.

The last remnant of the d’Agrillac rebellion has been extinguished as the Castle of Kerak Falcone has fallen to the forces of the Crown.

Royal forces have been besieging the castle since autumn last year, after outlawed former baron Uryen d’Agrillac fled the estate, and it was thought that only 50 or so of Uryen’s supporters, some of whom were non-combatant, were left holding out in the castle. Keen to finally bring this occupation of her family home to an end, loyalist baroness Sofia d’Agrillac ordered a full-scale assault on the castle.

The attack was launched at dawn, with simultaneous assaults on the castle from three sides by the 17698th Royal Infantry, a contingent from the White Tower, and militia loyal to Baroness Sofia. In addition a group of estate workers lead by one of Baroness Sofia’s retainers made a feint attack against the castle gatehouse in an effort to force the defenders to further split their forces.

The attackers used pre-prepared scaling ladders to climb the castle walls. This was the most dangerous part of the whole operation, but in the end the defending forces were so split that the experienced soldiers of the Royal Infantry were easily able to scale their side of the walls. Once the attackers were inside the castle courtyard resistance rapidly crumbled.

“Sergeant-Major Scrogge and his men were very useful in bringing down sundry walls and enabling access to the Keep,” said the Baroness. “Resistance was brief and the rebels are now all either dead, or prisoner. The flag of Bereny once more flies over Kerak Falkone. Actually for the first time as one can no longer use the d'Agrillac banner.”

The King offered his personal congratulations to Baroness Sofia. “I have fully restored your title,” he announced, “and it seems you have successfully recaptured the accompanying barony. You are to be congratulated, Baroness.”

The surviving rebels have been handed over to the Crown forces, and the task of rebuilding the estate’s shattered infrastructure can now begin. Uryen d’Agrillac himself remains at large, a wanted outlaw with a price of 25,000 gold on his head.
